EW reports San Diego Comic-Con 2020 has been cancelled. The reason...well, you know.

In a statement, SDCC officials said

"For the first time in its 50-year history San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC), the organizers behind the annual pop culture celebration, announced today with deep regret that there will be no Comic-Con in 2020. The event will instead return to the San Diego Convention Center from July 22-25, 2021. Recognizing that countless attendees save and plan for its conventions each year, and how many exhibitors and stakeholders rely upon its events for a major portion of their livelihood, they had hoped to delay this decision in anticipation that COVID-19 concerns might lessen by summer. Continuous monitoring of health advisories and recent statements by the Governor of California have made it clear that it would not be safe to move forward with plans for this year."

I figured this was a no brainer. There was no way SDCC was going to go forward this year not unless there was a miracle that happened in the last week or two.I've seen speculation that there might not be a SDCC in 2021 either based on comments made by California leaders.

Hell,I probably won't go to a movie theater until there is vaccine,a proven treatment or this virus just disappears(unlikely I would think) since I'm immune compromised.I can't imagine going to something like a convention, concert or sporting event until things are a lot better and very sure.

Here's a great article from Jeff Sneider at Collider about how the future of Comic Con and other conventions could be done in the future under our new normal.

This article went up yesterday before Comic Con was officially canceled.

Totally expected this and kinda surprised it took this long to make the right call. I'm not surprised they're shooting for 2021 hopefully we'll have a safe and effective vaccine by then. California Governor, Gavin Newsom IMO is doing a good job striking a balance between realistic and hopeful. He's a fan and has been to SDCC but there's no way he would've allowed it to go forward this year but he would remain hopeful for 2021.

I've been talking to friends and family about what we'll feel comfortable doing once some restrictions are lifted and it's not an easy question. Big concerts and sports events are defiantly out. I love going to movie theaters and will wait to see what the scientist say, Wonder Woman 1984 was pushed back to 8/14. Personally my big concern is when I'm called back to work because I take public transportation to get there. Technically I have the ability to drive but realistically because of lack of parking I can't. The area I work in was built up around a transportation hub and assumes most people don't drive.
