Keep Jimmy Olsen but ax Brooks. No disrespect intended, just don't think he's right for the part. LOVED him in True Blood and The Game. He just doesn't fit the part in Supergirl. There was/is zero chemistry between him and Melissa (even though ANY one would have had chemistry with Melissa based on her acting skills and believability). Even Jeremy had more spark!

Anyone agree or disagree? Be gentle ;)

I have to 100% disagree! Mehcad Brooks, who we've met several times personally, is an incredibly nice person and has tried to give this part the best he possibly can. He even visits this site from time to time. The problem with James is not Mehcad, its that the writers are exploring non-traditional Jimmy Olsen plot lines with him that aren't always accepted by the audience. We support Mehcad very much and know he is giving it his best. We're sure the writers and producers are hearing the discontent from the fans and are working to find a good place for James' part. We think the writers are going to find a good storyline and or have one that is going to fall into place soon. Remember a lot of what happens mid-season is maneuvering to bigger plot lines and reveals later on.

I wouldn't go that far as to axe Mehcad. He's doing nothing wrong and is doing his utmost best with what he's been given. In a way, it's the same as Jeremy Jordan's Winn Schott Jr. character through a huge part of Season 1; namely, the role and character he'd been given hadn't been properly defined or fleshed out.

I will admit, the Guardian angle is one of those hit-or-miss propositions that writers and executives seem to favour that in this case isn't working out as well as anticipated or intended. The idea behind the character's inclusion is fine but the somewhat wonky introduction and the expansion of the character into the show's overall narrative has been somewhat haphazard.

In my modest view, had they (the writers) left the James Olsen character in the strictly photographer / reporter / boss roles and given Mehcad more fleshed out dialogue and a more plausible (non-Guardian) story arc this season, we wouldn't be second guessing the decision to have James Olsen the Guardian. The fact that the writers and EPs decided to add the Guardian and remove Max Lord, Lucy Lane and greatly reduce the Cat Grant role from the mix (for whatever BTS and logistical reasons), is one of the low spots in Season 2. It's a process of trial and error.

Don't be hard on Mehcad; be more critical of the writers and EPs for not thinking this character addition through and the paced roll-out more thoroughly.

Um....no, not at all. The character that has been written is the problem, not Mehcad, so no 100% disagree with you.

I genuinely hope you're right :) The story of Jimmy (James) is creative, different and definitely modernized. Exciting!! I am eagerly waiting to see how it is put to fruition. It's unfortunate that I am surely not the only one who thinks Mehcad is just not right for the part. I've seen how genuinely funny he is and adore his style. Perhaps he'd be better as the comic-relief? Chemistry should be recognized during auditions or before shooting. Miss Melissa has the ability to create chemistry with whomever she acts with, even Mehcad. It just wasn't on his end :(

Thank you for explaining that he is trying the best he can. Truthfully though, he shouldn't HAVE to be trying so hard.... Still love and appreciate Mehcad to the fullest and look forward to seeing him shine!!

Yes, Kelly - my feelings exactly!
I'm one of the "old-timers" (veterans of the Silver Age DC Comics) who didn't like "the new Jimmy Olsen" character from the beginning. I always thought it was a mistake, and that it just didn't work.
. I'd put it this way - If you're going to have Jimmy Olsen on a Supergirl show, then have the Jimmy Olsen on the show. Or else, leave him back in Metropolis with his buddy Clark. Don't change him!

Nope Mehcad's not the problem. I actually think he and Melissa did have chemistry last season, the key was when the writers didn't punsh it and just let them act. James wasn't written well last season but now they just don't know what to do with him. I think the intention was for Kara and James to be a couple, we had some BTS shots of James and Clark having what looked like a serious "bro" talk. I can't say exactly what made them scrap Kara and James at least trying to be a couple. They should have had James go back into the field as a crusading photojournalist working with reporter Kara. The CW relationship drama could have come from them trying to balance a relationship and working together. He could have even gotten a few heroic scenes as a photojournalist like when he snuck into Max's lab last season. Ultimately they may have decided to just be friends and work together leaving Kara and someone else for next season.

this right here, he is being written unlikable. it very well might not be an accident, the writers might actually take this some where interesting.

Hmmm...I honestly didn't see any chemistry with them as more than friends....their kiss compared to the kiss with Mon-El? Holy cow......not even close. At this point however, I don't think anything can be salvaged as the character has been taken down a road of no return. IMO, turn him bad, let Cadmus get a hold of him, and take that road as far as they want.

To be honest, I wasn't really a fan of the guardian concept...but if I recall right in one of the interviews with Medcad maybe one of the comic con ones, he was saying it'll be cool to be guardian...so I think he wanted more done with his character as well as the writers.

I'm confused as far as who should be Kiras love interest. I did like what Kara and James had going on, although it got bit annoying with James and Lucy. It was like the writers were postponing it, but now abandoned it with Mon El in the picture? I mean James seems more preoccupied with guardian and there hasn't been really chemistry scenes between Kara and James for awhile. It seems the same with Kara though..like its more action based this season and we are seeing the supergirl side more.

I'm wondering where else they gonna take this guardian storyline...it was kinda odd we suddenly saw the side of James where he wants to help...be a superhero :/ In a way like its not enough to work alongside supergirl, but in his own way...I'd like to think his character is still finding himself and it's not like his guardian and that's it. I'm not sure what that means for his relationship with Kara though...she isn't supportive of that. But I also think Mon El needs to find himself more...his role on earth. So I'm guessing the writers are addressing that this season and perhaps later in the season, we'd find out whether they'd be a relationship with Kara and Mon El or James and Kara.

I honestly have never heard him specifically say Guardian ever in an interview. That was a character brought in that took the fans by surprise.

There is nothing wrong with Mehcad Brooks in this show. Why should he go? What I believe is wrong or at least confusing is the way the Jimmy Olsen character has been written. I am slowly adapting into his Guardian role. However it would have been more plausible for him to stay as a photo-journalist (and not art director) and work with Kara. But with the focus more on the DEO this season, that might have meant less reason for James to interact with the bulk of the cast.

I wonder now that Kara knows that James is The Guardian, if Supeman will find out too. Be a good reason for him to return to National City.

As a last resort maybe the character of James needs to be removed. But perferable if there is a way to fix him.

And as Admin and others said, it's not Mehcad. I bet with appropriate writing you can get Melissa Benoist to portray an utterly hateable character, and we all love her as Kara right now don't we.

Loved her in Red K, and she was the villain.
