"In these stories from ACTION COMICS #252-284, Supergirl adjusts to life on Earth with her adoptive parents. The stories alternate between small-town slice-of-life tales, tales of Supergirl’s efforts to master her new powers, and time-traveling jaunts into the far future and past. Plus, don't miss an early appearance of the Legion of Super-Heroes! "
Yes, they nailed it - though I'd say that Midvale was portrayed more like small city than a small town. (For one thing, they had a Museum of Natural History.)
From Action Comics #287, here's an good example of the "small- town (or city) slice-of-life" panels.:
Kara (wearing a dark wig) is walking home from Midvale High School (in her junior year ) with her friend Margie (don't think they ever used her last name). Margie asks Kara if she wants to join her fan club. Kara asks if it's an Elvis fan club (this is 1962, remember!). But no - it's a Superman fan club! Hey, it's not every day that a girl gets asked to join her cousin's fan club, right?
