Good read, I agree with everything it said except Supergirl starting the season working in the shadow of her cousin. In the beginning of season one she was in his shadow not because he was trying to overshadow her but because she was figuring out what type of hero she is. By the end of season one she's her own hero, that's why I think it was a good thing we didn't "see" him in season one. The way Superman was introduced in S2E1 was perfect nobody, called for help nor was it implied that either of them couldn't have saved the space ship themself. When they teamed up they were equals.
The writer correctly pointed out that Kara Zor-El has had a more traumatic life than Kal-El. They both lost their whole world but he doesn't have actual memories of what he lost. He doesn't remember his birth parents and was too young to have friends. Everything he knows about Krypton he learned later in life.
