Breaking News! Many of you have been wondering about Floriana Lima's name missing from the season 3 description from the Upfront presentations two weeks ago. Several of you have asked us to look into the matter and now, we can finally clarify what all that meant. Officially, as of today, Floriana Lima will return to Supergirl ... but not as a season regular. Before we all jump to conclusions, let's be clear. This is not a story driven decision, this is unfortunately an actor availability situation. Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg has said:
We adore Floriana and have loved working with her to tell this inspiring story. Although she’s not available to us as a series regular next season, as she’s looking to pursue other opportunities, we’re happy she’ll be returning for multiple episodes in Season 3.
It isn't clear what "multiple" episodes really means or how this might affect the Sanvers relationship, but our guess is that whenever Floriana is available, they will bring her back as Maggie Sawyer in a heartbeat. Any ramifications of this news toward Alex's marriage proposal aren't clear. It could simply mean that Maggie's role is more off screen while still married to Alex. We'll have to wait and see in the highly anticipated season 3! But for now, get your speculation hats on!

Okay my friend, I agree with some of your devil advocate points except for the one about Xena not having superpowers. Remember, there was always a question at to whether Ares (the God of War) was her father. Xena always demonstrated Godlike abilities and was able to do things normal humans could not which definitely took alot of special effects. I too am eagerly awaiting to see what Season 3 of SuperGirl will bring and hope you are right that season 2 was in some ways a reboot.
Back to devils advocate. Xena had far fewer wardrobe and hair style changes. The VFX on Xena were less complicated, no superpowers, but as I recall the fight scenes were excellent. I do believe Lucy Lawless did most if not all of her own stunts, insurance is never going to allow Melissa to do that. I also wonder how many months a year Xena filmed. Xena also didn't have a day job like Kara. There were fewer characters in Xena. My one wish for season 3 is no new good characters. We spent time getting to know the new characters in season 2.
Let's see what season 3 brings, season 2 was in some ways a soft reboot.
Now we all know the making of Xena Warrior princess in no way compares to what it takes to make SuperGirl. Viewers making the request to see more SuperGirl/Kara and more adventure and more of her heroics are not void of the knowledge of what goes into a show's production. However, Season one was able to provide viewers the kind of adventure, heroics and screentime for SuperGirl that viewers are asking to see again - there are only 2 additional episodes between season 1 and season 2.
Also, viewers are requesting longer dialogue between the two sisters and more follow-up conversations between the two sisters after dynamic scenes (i.e. exodus) it is not an impossible request - again it was done in season one so therefore we have definitely seen that it can be done.
Exactly! People compare Supergirl to the other DC shows but I would argue that Supergirl is a tougher production. I believe it has the longest production time of all four shows. I remember in an interview with Melissa, Grant, Stephen, and Carley Lotz they were asked who is the fastest getting into their costume? They said Grant was fastest then Melissa followed closely by Stephen but only because of his boots taking time to lace. Carley said she can't get into or out of her White Canary costume without help and Melissa said she needs help getting out of costume. Then we have Melissa's hair, which takes time to color. Some of Kara's updos probably take even a professional 30min to do. When they put her hair up the goal is probably to shoot every scene where her hair is in that style. When it's down as Supergirl the hair people have to maintain it. That's not something Flash or Arrow production has to account for with their stars. On the Flash FB site some people want a shorter season because they don't like "filler" episodes. A shorter season would allow for more Melissa screen time but I personally don't want fewer episodes and I like having more developed secondary characters.
In a perfect world Melissa would be in practically every scene but in the real world that's just not possible. This show runs on a tight schedule, it's just not physically possible for Melissa to have more than about 30min of screen time per 40min ep. A 3 minute fight scene can take a day to film and a simple flying scene can take half a day. It's a give and take Melissa was probably filming scenes from the last two eps while others were filming S2E20. In an interview Calista said filming Ally McBeal wore her out and that show wasn't nearly as physically demanding.Think about this when you're watching Wonder Woman next week and Gal Gadot is in every scene. This cast and crew produce 120 minutes of film in about 30 days where a movie like WW takes 4-5 times as long for the same amount of film. Even accounting for production value what the SG cast and crew do in a short time is amazing.
I agree completely. As others have said we should have more focus on Supergirl, less time on these subplot romances of supporting characters and no more Guardian. PLease, no more Guardian. To me the reason to watch the program is Supergirl and Melissa Benoist's marvelous portrayal of her.
Huh?? So you are completely forgetting J'onn and Mon-El who is huge parts of Kara's life. Mon-El more so now. I would love to see more scenes with Mon-El/Winn and Alex bonding and Mon-El/J'onn and James too
