HERE WE GO! THE FIRST LOOK AT MELISSA BENOIST'S NEW COSTUME! It looks amazing to us! The red long boots help keep the suit color balanced and we are loving the nod to Superman's costume with the cape being clipped down on the shoulders! Her belt looks much more prominent than before and certainly does a great job of breaking up the costume. Finally, the arms and shoulders look like they are more armored. She looks like she is ready for a fight much more than before! Check out the costume for yourself below:

Imho, after the hasty S1-S2 move to Vancouver, this should have been addressed as at top priority. But the business doesn't think this or act this way. And, in Hollywood, like in the fashion business, image is everything. They've broken the first sacred cardinal rule in the business. Sexist as it might be, this rule applies much more to women than men. The ramifications are far harsher for them than their male counterparts. If the suit change was done as a social and political statement, it will have the reverse effect of what they're trying to accomplish (meaning; de-powering rather than empowering her).
Regarding a possible / likely ratings drop: Admittedly, traditional ratings do not really matter to the CW because they also use other metrics / revenue streams as barometers as well, but if numbers get too low, say consistently below anywhere between 0.7% to 1.1% of share (which is extremely lenient even by the CW's standards), the sponsors / backers will start to pull away. If this happens, that impending catastrophe will get the brass' attention in a hurry.
Edit: See the corresponding Forum thread: 3M's Thinsulate technology..., and the News Page's SDCC Panel News Posts # 3, 4, 30 and 31 for gist and practical application to show.

Part I (re: post # 82).
You would be quite correct. The ratings will continue to hover for a while then decline as this change sinks in. They've effectively torpedoed a proven iconic image in favor of a generally aesthetically and visually unfavourable and polarising look. Instead of an iconic image, we're presented with a juvenile fanboy, androgynous, generic video game look and feel.
Unfortunately, they did this not at the outset of the show or end of the show's life cycle (like they really should do) and when there would be far less fallout, but right smack dab in the thick of the series primarily as a health and safety stopgap. The old suit was uncomfortable and impractical for Vancouver's inclement weather but they (the wardrobe department) have the technology and know-how to renew the old look to make it significantly warmer, easier to use, and to give greater R-O-M / harness and corset maneuverability and comfort. Apparently, they seem to have little concept of how to weather-proof costumes without sacrificing the skirt .
Melissa and the showrunners completely misjudged / overlooked / misunderstood the highly culturally significant imagery impact and importance of the older version. Like what DC Comics did with Wonder Woman's costume by adding pants to their mix a while back. It blew up massively in their faces and the readership bailed / balked at it in a vehement hurry. It's almost like they've tampered with or defaced the American flag or the Statue of Liberty, or put Santa Claus in an all-leather and spandex biker look.
I myself prefer the traditional colors and the traditional skirt but I don't see the change causing a drop in ratings. I believe the writing is the key. I agree that last year it wasn't all that good until the last few episodes.
And then again, maybe not.....lol

I agree with this assessment despite my Forum-stated reservations and less-than-happy demeanour. It is correct.
But the change that they're introducing (new suit with pants, etc.), should realistically be presented in the proposed movie version of the character, not as a remedy or add-on to the current ills / inconsistencies of the TV show.
Like I said in a Forum posting (without getting into it here) - horse should go before cart. The TV series should conclude as is/was and a movie version with the new changes proceeds. It will, in my modest estimation, be more impactful across the socio-cultural spectrum. The show should serve as the launch point (sans pants) to the film (with pants) and not be the be all-end all destination.

Correct on both points.
Whether it works out or not or they get the intended reaction and feedback, is to be determined. They keep rolling the dice and one day it might come up snake eyes.
Just sayin'!
