Falling Is Best Episode of Supergirl So Far

It's been three weeks in the making. Three rounds of voting, four seasons in battle. In the end, it was season one episode sixteen that took the crown as the best episode of Supergirl so far! Now, it has been pointed out to me that there is a potential that due to the rules of voting, we can really only be 100% sure that Falling is the one episode that will end up in people's top three more than any other. But at this point, we think we've voted this topic to death. So with that we will name "Falling" as the best episode of Supergirl so far! Here are some interesting facts about the episode for you:

  • The episode originally aired March 16th, 2016
  • It was directed by Larry Teng who did many of the season 1 episodes
  • Current showrunners, Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner wrote the episode!
  • The episode did a 1.4 live in the ratings with an adjusted 2.1 live + 7.
  • Viewership was 6.7 million viewers live and adjusted to 8.8 million live + 7.

Of course, Falling has some pretty good competition. Specifically the second and third place positions. When we did the polls the first time (two rounds), Midvale edged out For The Girl Who Has Everything by one vote! This time, For The Girl Who Has Everything edged out Midvale by one vote! It's difficult to apply the mathematics about the poll, elements like poll fatigue, demographics, and poll engagement. Basically, we think we could go back and forth on these two episodes each time we hold a poll.

Finally in forth and fifth place were Red Dawn and The Pilot respectively. These results seem to match up with all rounds of the polls. We'll let you guys draw your own conclusions from how everything ended up!

What we'd like to know next is, how did you guys enjoy this exercise? Was it fun? Are there ways we can improve? Would doing more events like this in the off season be fun? We have a few ideas but want to hear from you as well! As always, share your thoughts with us in the comments below and in the forum! Keep us advertisement free and visit the support page!

Gotta agree that falling is the best episode. It showed Melissa’s acting talent perfectly. Would love to see a favourite villain poll one day.

An excellent idea. Expect Reign in the forecast, and deservedly so. Red K Kara was terrific. Just adore Brenda Strong's Lillian Luthor.

Well then, since they are capable of such amazing work, I will set my expectations for them even higher for next season. ;-)

I enjoyed it, although I read to quickly and cut myself short on votes in the first round. I do find it interesting that the only Top 5 episode that wasn't Season 1 was one that the leads were barely in!

Wait a second - I thought there were two in the top 5 that weren't from Season 1. Weren't both "Midvale" and "Red Dawn" not Season 1?

Yes. Both Red Dawn and Midvale were in top five. The only season that didn't end up in top 5 was S2.

My take away is that the viewers prefer a Kara centred story, but also powered by Danvers Sisters.

If we're gonna talk about individual scenes, my ABSOLUTE favorite, at least from an emotional standpoint, is from an otherwise "okay" episode.

Season 1. "Solitude". The scene towards the end when Alex confesses that she was the one that killed Astra, and J'onn took the blame for her. Just...absolutely wrecks me, every single time. You think Kara's gonna leave, angry, but then she just turns around, embraces the weeping Alex. And the absolute cherry on top, that always pushes me over the edge...J'onn tries to leave, to give them some space, and Kara grabs his hand, while still hugging Alex with her other arm.

It's the first time these 3 characters have absolutely felt like a family. And for as wonderful as "Falling" was...this scene, for me, beats that entire episode.

True, but Kara was the central focus which puts it right there with the other top 5. May the PTB read this and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE no matter plot, sub-plot etc.....Kara must be central to the story.

For future polls, a best scene would be great to do, but I think you would need to detail it out into sub-sections or it could prove to be impossible for some of us to decide. Something like a best fight scene, best emotional scene, best action scene, best save, best Melissa scene, best sister scene ;-) ,etc. That would definitely help me. It might also be interesting to do a best line/piece of dialogue, best guest star, best villain, etc.

I agree with the idea suggested by others for a best scene poll, but I think Sully is correct that there are many variables and it would be best to split it up by type.

Overall I thought the poll was fun and a great way to keep us engaged during the hiatus. Thanks for doing it!

Love Falling. I think one of the biggest losses we had moving networks was losing Larry Teng. The other was losing Ali Adler. Not to minimize Queller and Rovner's role because they did a fabulous job writing that episode, but the decision for the direction/content of a season and of an episode is highly influenced by the producers and the directors. Teng was both director and producer of Season 1.

Nice also to see that the results of your previous poll seem to be validated! :-) . I don't think we need to do it again and I personally wouldn't be gun-ho to do it, but I would be curious as to how things would turn out if, like evrafter stated, everyone only got 1 vote.
