I really don't think they will get rid of the Maggie's character either, Maggie wasn't in the show alot and I agree that they could just have Alex talk about her and she appears when she can. I have a feeling that is what they will do with Cat Grant, that way they remain permanent people who appear on an as needed basis. My guess is that the Kleenex moment is MonEl leaving even though we know he'll be back, I'm sure they will make his departure a tear jerking moment for Kara. That would also be a good cliffhanger to bring people back for S3 since those who love MonEl will come back to see how they bring him back and those that don't like MonEl will come back in the hope that they change there minds and don't bring him back (although that group will be disappointed since the synopsis states he is in S3).

I hope not, I’d prefer the writer develop their own ideas, not copy Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s season 5 ending.

Maybe but it seems kinda random, besides they can easily keep his character off screen, they can just have Kara talk to him over the phone like Clark and Perry White.
My guess would be Jeremiah, he's important enough to be tissue-worthy while at the same time not effect the plot too much.

I think it would be Snapper, too.
