Turns out it's a heavy news day for Supergirl today and we couldn't be more excited! New adventures in audiobooks, episode titles, and now five brand new photos from the season five opener titled Event Horizon! Five photos is a little low for what we are used to but if and when new photos appear, you know we'll add them here! Judging from what we can see in the photos, there is going to be a major event at a stadium! The team will rush in to assist. Now don't hold us to it, but it kind of looks like Dreamer has an updated mask. Additionally, we are curious if that isn't J'onn but instead his brother taking his place. David just happens to have a kind of evil looking smirk. Check out the photos below:

Let us know if you think we are right about the mask and J'onn in the comments below and in our forum! Keep us advertisement free and visit the support page!

Even in the most partisan moments of last season, I respected that the writers never portrayed the solution to bad ideas as silencing them, rather countering them with good ideas and demonstrating their superiority in practice.
I thought so too and it’s nice that someone who I know thinks differently than me agrees. Kara never said CoL or their ideas were wrong but tried to show a better way. For the most part the writers portrayed CoL as regular people with bad ideas who got caught up in mob mentality.

As for the technology theme of this season I don’t see why it has to be partisan. Over-dependence on technology isn’t a partisan issue. Technology can be both a positive and negative thing in our lives. I’d like to hear Kara talk about how Kryptonians with their advanced technology balanced things, was there a period of time where the technology was more advanced than people’s ability to use it in a balanced way. Brainy being an AI would also have an interesting point of view on the issue.

BOOM! Although the subtext of the season about how we are too reliant on technology cuts both ways. But...I wonder if the writers will side with big tech or as Breitbart calls them "The Masters of The Universe" when it comes to silencing opposing views from conservatives, libertarians and independents.
It does indeed! And I also hope that it will be represented as such.

In all seriousness, silencing opposing viewpoints is something I feel would never be endorsed by "Team Super."

[By the way, OT a bit...a bizarre thing happened to my cable monopoly Altice...Friday night I lost TV, but still had internet and phone. It's all through the same company. And this was very widespread across the northeast.]

I just saw a picture of this episode on David Harewood's Instagram and it's probably the lighting but the suit doesn't look as dark as we have seen. It looks more Superman/Supergirl blue. Even the House of L crest looks shinier. I can't wait to see Melissa in action with her new suit.

Kara has grown IMO more than other Arrowverse characters. We met her as a woman in her mid-20s, in most ways a responsible adult but at the same time still figuring out what she wanted to be when she grew up. As often happens IRL the what do I want to be when I grow up question was influenced by both outside events and the people in her life giving her encouragement. With a push from Cat she’s gone from assistant to a Pulitzer Prize winner. Seeing the life of the most important person in her life in danger was the catalyst for embracing her powers rather than hiding them and becoming a hero. We’ve watched Kara go from someone who was reluctant to make choices and allowed circumstances make them for her to a strong woman who makes a choice and accepts the consequences. It’s not uncommon for an outward change to accompany the inward change that happens as a person goes from their mid to late 20s. Visually we’ve already seen some changes in Kara such as more “adult” cloths and chic udos instead of a simple ponytail at work. I’m thinking of the suit change as an outward symbol of Supergirl moving on from the challenges of a new hero to those of a leader of heroes. I short we’ve watched both Kara Danvers’s and Supergirl’s right on que age wise quarter life crisis.

I agree, l like the new suit a lot but prefer the original. I can't help thinking how much my preference is due to getting use to the same suit over four seasons and the same might occur for the new suit; something the other Arrowverse shows didn't allow time for.
Astute observation as usual, unlike the other Arrowverse suits we’ve had time to grow an attachment. The suit change added to Melissa changing her hair is likely quite jarring to highly visual people. Subconsciously there may be worry that Kara’s core personality has changed too. My hope is that once the season starts and we see that Kara's still Kara just with a new suit people will adjust to the visual changes.

@blw7920,

Well said. Good points. Just keep in mind that it is up to the viewer to decide what they wish to see. If the more traditional look is preferred, so be it. If they prefer the more modern (different iteration) take, this will eventually become the accepted norm.

No one is disputing the actors' commitments to their craft (it has been exemplary). There are practical work-arounds when dealing with inclement weather and I'll simply state that the showrunners and costume department didn't fully explore all possibilities before going for the drastic redesign. Much more could have been done with the older version, but they opted for a total overhaul rather than building or improving upon what was already working. In my modest opinion, the timing was way off (meaning: it should have been either done at the beginning of the series, at the start of Season 2 when the show moved locales, or at the very end - like the suit reveal in another DC-inspired show from the early 2000s).

Truth be told, suit changes are the only reliable constant on the Berlati-verse shows. Everything else has been wildly, yet predictably, inconsistent. Some suit changes have worked and others simply haven't. We'll just have to wait and see where this one lands on the hit-or-miss list.

In regards to Melissa's new costume I feel it's a considerably more modern look for a young adult woman superhero than the original skirted outfit. This isn't to say I don't highly regard the original, it's a comic book classic, but it was designed for a teenage character back in the late 50's. Kara's character has grown considerably during the course of 4 seasons and Melissa has done an incredible job in bringing one of my favorite DC characters to life. Some of you subscribers have already mentioned that her new outfit may be "tweaked" additionally from what is posted here in this topic's gallery. Changing the outfit after 4 seasons doesn't seem to be abrupt to me, considering how many costume changes this character has experienced in the comics over the past 60years. The added benefit of keeping our favorite Supergirl actress comfortable and healthy during filming in inclement weather is just another plus. Melissa has never struck me as being a complainer or a diva type personality. She always seems grateful to be starring in a TV show and working with a cast she genuinely loves. If allowing her to wear an outfit that gives her more comfort during long hours of filming-(often in cold, wet weather), makes her happy, I'm all for it. Dreamer's costume looks incredible as well, and there is another example of a skirtless outfit which to me comes across very attractive and functional. These are my thoughts on the topic, but I do respect all opinions that are submitted here. :-)

I like the way Dreamer's suit fits Nicole, and the way the Batwoman suit fits Ruby waaay better than the clunky new suit they designed for Melissa.

*****

There's no need to compare apples and oranges. Each suit has their merits and drawbacks. People are entitled to their opinions because they're simply that - opinions.

Nicole's outfit simply suits her and no one else. She was introduced as Dreamer in this suit (or a slight variation thereof) so that's what people will associate with the character for the time being. The same can be said for Ruby's Batwoman costume. It suits her and no one else. She was also introduced in this current iteration with these particular specifications (but not specifically in the pilot episode). It may / will change as her series wears on.

Melissa's changed Supergirl suit will either be accepted as is or it will be modified as the series moves forward. It will be up to her, the showrunners and the costume department to determine what works and what doesn't.

From what we have seen so far (roughly 3 or 4 officially released pictures and all the same front veiw) I like the suit. I don't see any clunkynes to it. Instead if Mellissa is happy and comfortable in the suit then we can only assume it is a perfectly taylored fit. It is to early to critique the suit in any constructive manor as we have not yet been shown the suit in scenes with movement such as fight or flight action.
