Elseworlds Finale Recap

All good things ... Tonight we have the finale of Elseworlds. Of course, all the shows will continue in January 2019 and even more exciting, this sets us up for the next crossover which has only grown in magnitude! With reality changed yet again, the team, now including Kara, has had an even tougher hand dealt to them. Barry and Oliver have been returned to their own bodies but they are powerless. Kara has been trapped in a new organization's prison and held there by her doppelganger sister Alex. Finally, a new version of Superman has been summoned and now controls the whole planet with a tight grip. How did the heroes get out of this one? Through these events below:

  1. Deegan Becomes Superman: When Deegan tried to use the book of destiny last time, he wanted to become the Flash. He failed because he wasn't experienced enough with the book. On the second attempt, he was exposed to Supergirl who has even more powers than The Flash. Deegan takes Supergirl's powers and becomes Superman. Or at least a male version of Supergirl that looks like Superman. Because Kara is not from this Earth, she isn't really rewritten but she is trapped in a power dampening prison. Deegan as dark Superman, says that everyone is changed this time and agent "Danvers" reveals herself and triggers a sound blast to hurt Kara. We aren't sure yet who this Alex is.
  2. Good is Bad and Bad is Good: The Monitor sees a bit of potential in powerless Barry and Oliver. He takes them to his dimension to give them the "glass half-empty" talk. When returned, Barry and Oliver realize that the bad guys are good and vice versa. The Trigger Twins head to the gangster bar to seek out Cisco so they can go to Earth 38 and get the real Superman. When they get there, they find out Cisco is actually the criminal boss and James Olsen, now Jimmy Olsen Worst Pal of Superman, is working for him.
  3. Superman Returns: After Barry is able to bank on an emotional connection with Cisco, Oliver, Cisco and Barry are able to head to Earth 1. They arrive in the Fortress of Solitude where Superman and Lois are doing ... something? They are able to explain what is going on and after a silly moment where Superman wonders if Cisco is actually Kara, both Lois and Clark agree to head to Earth 1 to help set reality right. In the meantime, Kara is able to reach Alex and the two's familiar bond returns even if Alex is native to Earth 1. Alex instantly calls Kara her sister and when they run into Dark Superman, Alex remains by her side. Just then, the real Superman arrives to have a word with 'Dr. Deegan'.
  4. The Battle of the Supermen: The two Supermen fight throughout Central City. Deegan, now going full villain, decides to use the same weapon Barry and Oliver used against him. He attacks a police helicopter. The Real Superman is able to save it but gets caught off guard. Meanwhile, Kara, Earth 1 Alex and Barry find the book again. Kara attempts to change reality but doesn't know how to do it. She speeds the book to Clark who is able to restore Barry, Oliver and much of the city before Deegan closes the book again and takes off as Dark Superman.
  5. Oliver's Gambit: Things are going too far, way too far. Clark knows that if Barry and Kara try to slow time down they will both die in the process. The two do it anyway as the heroes they are. Oliver calls on the Monitor to plead for them. He says he finally knows who he is and there is too much darkness in him to protect the Earth. Earth needs better heroes and Kara and Barry are those heroes. They inspire hope. Superman, now joined by Brainy, J'onn and Lois take on Dark Superman.
  6. The Arrow: Oliver is able to arrive in time and shoot the book of destiny, stopping all of the reality altering moments going on. Supergirl and The Flash don't run/fly themselves to death and Brainy is able to quickly deal with the new Amazo by ripping out his motherboard.

So much happened in the last few scenes! Where do we start! Clark and Lois have to leave Earth for a time because Lois is pregnant! She can't bring the baby to term if she is on Earth, he could kick through her. Clark and Lois will stay on Argo for the time being. That said, Clark passes the torch to Kara. Supergirl will be the only Kryptonian on Earth for a while. Next up, we have Clark and Lois in the fortress preparing for their trip. Clark crushes a piece of coal into a diamond and asks Lois to marry him. All he can get out is her name before she jumps into his arms and says yes! Barry and Oliver share a drink after the long ordeal is over. The two having been each other, have a new perspective on what it means to be a hero. Oliver gets a phone call from an unknown number and it's Batwoman. She let's him know that Deegan has made a new friend, Psycho Pirate! The crossover ends with the promise of Crisis on Infinite Earths next season!

When Batwoman landed on the truck Ireally thought it was Kara at first. The impact was considerable.

In reading the discussion here, many readers have interpreted Crisis on infiinite earths as being next year's crossover. I thought it was going to be an entire season show, meaning it could end in late Spring.

I'm not certain it's about oliver's life, because we are talking about destinies and not death (or lives). I think the trade is more by making the balance with John Deegan's destiny. He want to have power and be a hero (with questionable methods), and when Barry was still runnong and Kara flying, the « pain » for lack of better expression of the visual effect, went away and was given to john Deegan with a creepy face.
I feel it more like an exchange for the destinies of two heroes needed for the next battle with a new villain with real power this time.

Here’s my theory it’s going to be Oliver that dies not Kara or Barry like the comics. The deal Oliver made when he talked to the Monitor alone was his life for Kara and Barry’s. That last scene with Oliver and Barry in the bar made me think Oliver knows he doesn’t have long to live. No way is CW ending Flash and Supergirl is a more than solid performer. Arrow is in its seventh season and Stephen has made noises about wanting to spend more time with his family. Leads contracts are for seven years, Stephen may have agreed to stay so Oliver can go out in a big way.

However, Oliver only knew that they were supposed to die during this 'trial' with the Monitor, so the deal was to save them from this trial because they are the best ones to fight the future threat. He has no knowledge of what's supposed to happen next year in the battle with the Anti-Monitor. Plus, the Monitor already said that the Anti-Monitor was much more powerful than him, so it's unclear if he could do anything to save them even if he wanted to.

Whatever happens though, I agree it won't be the end of the shows.

I have to admit I'm scared to death that Crisis on Infinite Earths will be the death of Supergirl. That would devastate me! I know some people want the writers to follow the comic books very closely. I'm not a fan of that, though; I like it when the writers give new twists to the traditional stories. I hope they do that for the 2019 Crisis and save our Supergirl! :)

I really wouldn't worry. There is true to the comics and there's real life. Supergirl could die and we would still get her back. The network isn't going to order a show for only 8 episodes then be left with a giant programming hole. Comics bring characters back from the dead all the time. Even if the show is true to comics, Kara can and would return.
Our admin is absolutely correct CW wouldn’t order 8 or so episodes of a show to air in the fall then cancel it. Going on the theory that Oliver gave his life for Kara and Barry’s. What if Arrow as a show ends in spring 2019 but Stephen and other actors from the show appear in CoIE in fall 2019, this would solve the hole in the network’s schedule issue. CoIE would actually take place on the shows that would continue Supergirl, Flash, LoT, and the presumed Batwoman show but Oliver and company will have parts. Production wise this would actually be a big help, with Arrow not in production the actors would be completely free to film COIE so it would be like getting five shows involved but only having to juggle the schedules of actors on four.

Actually, just the opposite.

If one of the shows (Arrow, for example) shuts down, the actors contracted to the show have to start looking for work pretty much as soon as they find out they're cancelled.

Which means most, if not all would be unavailable for any "Crossover".

Thank you Eric for giving us positive feedback - I too would be devastated if something happened to this series - so thank you for always looking positive at the future of the series.

Yep what i said too  its actually crazy that we have so many people actually believing they kill of Kara and Flash or any of them and order a season with only 8-9 ep and then end their shows on a freakin midseason finale.

Also in the comics they came back too just their lives was changed around them. so Why do some people actually believe if they killed them off in a cool cliffhanger ending for midseason that they will just end the shows is just crazy to think that.

Supergirl and Flash will have many seasons infront of them. Not just 8-9 ep after this season for any of them.

These storyline is always changed to what fits these shows. Look at Flashpoint on Flash it was nothing as severe on the show as it was in the comics. If they gone with comics there it should have changed everything practically too. But nothing was really changed.

Crisis will be the same thing it will be Big and grand But everything will go back to normal for our beloved characters again when its over and time for its return in jan 2019.

I didn't think much of the crossover. It felt messy and they were jumping all over the place. Too much was going on in a short time. Kate kane/Batwoman was wasted after the build-up for her. It felt stiff. Don't know if it was the acting or the way it was writen. Very disappointed they didn't use Lena at all in any of the changed times. All in all a disappointing crossover

Re: Batwoman, I don't know what to think of her yet. On one hand, she was definitely a butt-kicking dynamo! On the other, I think you put it well, "It felt stiff."

I'm not familiar with Ruby Rose enough to know her dramatic range, but too much of what she was asked to do as Kate amounted to delivering backstory while looking enigmatic.

Still unsure of why such hype surrounds the character. I presume I'll find out when I check out the series premiere.
