I hope he understands that too. It's hard to tell at this point, but my optimistic side tells me it's likely he's never said that to anyone, ever. He's also probably never had a serious relationship in his previously hedonistic life. I say that because he looks to me like he's making a sincere effort to be s man worthy of Kara. Recently Kara accidentally discovered that Mon-El doesn't drink anymore. He didn't say, "Hey, look at me, I'm clean and sober!" He didn't draw attention to himself at all. He just did it. It was that episode that turned around my opinion of him.
As far as that line goes, I would cut him some slack. He has no experience in these things, either in Earth culture or, probably, Daxam future either. His sole source for knowledge about male/female relationships apart from movies and TV is Winn! And let's face it, Winn doesn't have the greatest track record when it comes to women. His information probably comes from video games.
Quoting rachelrr:
I agree. His trajectory has been interesting. He starts as a slacker, graduates to slacker bartender, then goes to slacker superhero. He doesn't know how to be a man worthy of Kara, so he asks her "What do we do?" a lot. But he is trying to be a better man -- no longer partying or drinking, so there's hope.
One thing I noticed, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, Mon-El has told Kara he loves her at least twice. But she hasn't said it back. Oopsie! If Mon-El had spent as much time on Earth as Kara, he would know what that means!
Forgot to mention that I also love DEO action packed episodes with Alex and Jonn helping SuperGirl fight crime.
