New key art has been released today for the true four part crossover event coming up in November this year! True to form, The CW has created a comic-like poster for the event which features illustrated versions of all the members of the four shows (Supergirl, Arrow, Flash and Legends). More excitingly, is that the cover features the alternate and evil looking versions of the heroes that might be showing up to crash Iris and Barry's wedding! This has got to be the biggest clue as to what the crossover event will be about and as comic book fans know, any "crisis" event is a BIG ONE! Check out the poster below:
The artwork here was done by the famous Phil Jimenez. All the producers of the CW shows wanted to get his spin on this cover. They said in a joint statement:
Phil was the perfect choice to bring the comic book cover iteration of this idea to life. You can count on one hand the number of artists who could compellingly represent so many characters in a single image. Phil is one of them. And his design invokes the cover of Justice League #207, which was the 20th Annual JLA/JSA crossover. Our 10-year-old selves are in heaven.
Of course Phil Jimenez was elated to have the oppotunity to do the work for The CW and capture the network's heroes in one amazing cover. He said:
Some of the first DC Comics I ever read were those insane crossovers with a dozen characters from alternate earths and dimensions — the kind of stuff I later became known for! So when CW asked me to do an homage cover inspired by those amazing team-up covers, I couldn’t resist the chance to draw all of The CW’s DC superheroes in one crazy action sequence.
Looking through such a dynamic piece of art, its easy to get lost in all the detail. One detail you might have missed was the addition of a new hero to the line-up. The Ray, not to be confused with The Atom's Ray Palmer, has been added to the crossover event! TVline.com has learned that Russell Tovey from Quantico will take on the iconic part of the homosexual superhero. The official description of The Ray is:
Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.
For those that were excited to learn of The CW's plans for an animated show Freedom Fighters: The Ray, will also be glad to know that Russell will voice The Ray on the animated version as well. Melissa Benoist, Grant Gustin, and Stephen Amell who are also confirmed for voice work.

I'm guessing that the first night will see The Ray needing the help of Supergirl, Flash, Green Arrow and other heroes to battle the evil versions of themselves on Earth-X.
The second night will likely be the wedding of Barry and Iris with all the heroes in attendance and it gets crashed by their evil Earth-X counterparts.
I hope the Anti-Monitor appears in the end to warn everyone of the impending Crisis On Infinite Earths.
And the good thing? They're gonna lose.
Note 1: "Evil counterpart" is a staple in superhero fiction. If this wasn't about Nazism, there would still be evil versions of
Kara etc portrayed. They would act exactly the same, just the facism parts don't get mentioned. I am on the left side of politics, I abhore Nazis and the far right, but in view I am against taboos of political entities being mentioned and portrayed, especially in fiction as the unambiguous bad guys.
(My personal take. Your view is valid. I respect it)
I can't say that I'm in your shoes, as I'm not Jewish, and you clearly have a different perspective. But in my eyes, this is a good thing. For one, with current White Supremacist and Neo Nazi activity, clearly portraying Nazis as bad guys is sorely needed. Furthermore, Earth X, where this alternate reality takes place, is a dystopia. This re-enforces the idea that, if Nazis won WWII, it would've have made the world worse, not better, as those who baselessly hate the Jewish and other persecuted peoples would like to have us think.
Not looking to argue or change your mind. Just my 2 cents.
I'm aware that this happened in the comics, but that doesn't make it any more acceptable.
I thought that was the Ray. These evil doppelgängers seem to be the same from the sneak peak for the animated show about the Ray, so I’m willing to be the crossover acts as a sort of back door pilot for Freedom Fighters: The Ray.
I'm thinking it'll be the reverse. I think Freedom Fighters: The Ray will lead into the crossover. After all, it wouldn't be much of a "back door pilot" since the crossover will be 4x longer than Freedom Fighters.
The "CW Seed" animated series are usually 5-6 episodes, with each "episode" only being about 5 minutes.
This is why they released Seasons 1 and 2 of Vixen on 1 "feature length" movie, on DVD and Blu Ray.
Plus, they still have to put out the announced Constantine animated series, after Freedom Fighters.
So yeah. I'm relatively certain that the Freedom Fighters: The Ray animated series will lead in to the crossover. Especially if they start loading up the weekly episodes of Freedom Fighters around the same time the rest of the season starts. Then it would wrap up roughly just in time for the crossover.
That’s not the Martian Manhunter, if you zoom in it’s some kind of metal mask. I thought that was the Ray. These evil doppelgängers seem to be the same from the sneak peak for the animated show about the Ray, so I’m willing to be the crossover acts as a sort of back door pilot for Freedom Fighters: The Ray.
Upper left between Kara and Firestorm.
