Does the Guardian inspire hope in people like Superman and Supergirl? That is the question James is asking going into tomorrow's new episode of Supergirl! In the inside look at City of Lost Children, it looks like James could be considering hanging up the Guardian helmet. We've always felt like we could understand James' motivations to become Guardian with friends like Kara and Clark. But if his goal is to add to the Hope, Help, and Compassion that Supergirl exudes to the world, Guardian may not be the vehicle to do that in. Check out what the producers had to say in the inside look below:

The BTS was from the now cancelled NBC show Powerless.
That said, I do sense a father/son relationship with James and the alien kid once the Guardian stuff lays low. I think though this is a James-centered show, it may not really be a throwaway because there is more on Rhea and Lena's plans and how Mon-El may have snapped and is going to do major harm to his vindictive mother, who killed his father.
And of course poor Lena is the tortured soul in this...I have begged time and again do NOT MAKE LENA GO HEEL!
I don't know how they can resolve all that though without him taking off his helmet.
Saying he has a lot on his plate with CatCo makes sense in theory but we rarely get to see this aspect of his life.
I wonder if James is in the final two episodes of the season.
Being under the DEO he can be an asset. To me what was unappealing with the Guardian was he is answerable to no one, and he's a distraction (both to all the characters and the show itself). It could have been more meaningful if the writers knew where they were going with the character and had planned for this episode early on if J'onn made it clear once in a while how opposed he was to James being in the way as Guardian. To me the writers didn't know what they were getting into by introducing Guardian. (I could be very wrong.)
We'll see how the rest of the series goes from here.
