Chyler Leigh Wears Her Own Supergirl Outfit

Ever since Superman comics in the early days, there have been stories of power-transfers, Kryptonite that can split whole people into two and even merging people back together. Now, we don't know how, what, or who this is character-wise, Chyler Leigh did send out a very awesome Instagram photo that would lead us to believe that the episode currently filming would have Alex Danvers with powers like Supergirl. What makes us think that this is more of a merge of the two sisters than it is a power transfer is how perfectly it would seem the suit is merged. It has black color and pads on the shoulders like Alex's DEO uniform would, but it has Blue like Supergirl and Supergirl's emblem. The sleeves don't go over the thumb like Supergirl and the collar is risen like Alex's DEO suit. Finally, Alex is sporting Kara's haircut.

So far no plot points have been shared about this new suit but my goodness, are we excited to see it! What do you think is happening? Will Helen Slater and Olivia Nikkanen be in this episode too? I'm just happy that to me this indicates that we might get a strong Alex and hopefully Kara&Alex episode. To me Kara&Alex/Supergirl having a human sister has always been THE core thing that makes this take on the Supergirl character different. Not to mention that I think that Chyler and Melissa are the strongest actresses on the show by far. To me this sounds like the show is using the 100th episode to play to their strengths.

We don't already have a strong Alex?

I was reading an article on this topic and someone suggested that it might be like an it's a wonderful life episode where Kara is shown what it might be like if she did not have powers to save the world but instead Alex had the powers. Thought that was quite an interesting take on the topic. May be true may not. I certainly can see both sides regarding Alex having powers. I'm okay either way - this season has been a fun ride and except for a few episode things, I'm just enjoying every minute of it.

I think you are right about "The Wonderful Life" analogy. Melissa made a similar comment in an interview.

That's for the 100th episode, which is episode 5x13. This is for 5x16. Also they wouldn't do that twice in one season.

Correct, I was about to type this.

My hope is that this is a one and done. No more superpowered heroes on Supergirl please....Supergirl and the Villains with powers is quite enough for me. Already 3 others on the show with powers + Superman....that is more than enough. 1 and done, then bring back our badass nonpowered Alex.

Red Kryptonite?

If I remember correctly it used to be that each time an individual Kryptonian came in contact with Red K, it would have a different effect. In 'Lois and Clark', Superman was affected at least three times. Once his personality like Supergirl's Season 1, another time his powers went into uncontrollable overdrive, and yet another time his powers transfered to Lois. It's only since Smallville that Red K's effects seem to have been streamlined.
Given that Red Kryptonite was the source of one of the definitive episodes of the series IMO it might be best to take it off the table rather than risk comparisons to “Falling”. It’s easy enough to pick another color.

Since she looks much like a cross-between herself AND Kara, I'm going with.....somehow they merge bodies. Would love to see Chyler acting some of Melissa's behaviors/quirks/movements/habits.
If Chyler is acting like a merging of the sisters we are in for a treat. Chyler like Melissa is a master of facial expressions and body language. I have no doubt that she can incorporate mannerisms from both characters.

Yes, you do remember correctly!
That was the effect of the red kryptonite on Kryptonians, when it was first introduced in the Silver Age comics. It was totally unpredictable - almost as unpredictable as Mr. Mxyzptlk! :D

Quoting Brierrose:

-A new color of Kryptonite that say causes a Kyptonian to merge with the next person they touch after exposure. This would likely require Lena’s help to reverse. After 100+ episodes I think the show has earned the right to add a new color of Kryptonite to the super-cannon.

I wonder if it is in the episode that Mélissa Benoist will direct. She would be less present on the screen if it is a merger between the two sisters.

Actually, Chyler's Super-showcase in her new suit will most likely be a part of episode 5.16, which is what they're filming right now with Tawnia McKiernan, who helmed this past week's "The Bottle Episode". Melissa's currently in director's prep for episode 5.17.

A duo of sisters, each in their costume with powers for an episode, could also be cool.
