Tomorrow is an all new episode of Supergirl and after last week's cliffhanger, we are on the edge of our seats waiting to see what will happen with Alex and Kara! Of course that's not all. Nia has been approached by Brainy to possibly join the team of "Super Friends" and she's got a book of possible costumes to check out. Now, judging from this sneak peek, it would seem that Nia has some other things to consider. Her visit to her family with Kara reveals a possible trouble spot with Nia's sister! Check it out below:

I agree that it seems the family doesn’t expect Nia to receive the gift, and this is likely because she is transgender. However, I think it is still plausible for her to receive the gift. Brain scans of transgender men and women found that their brains more closely resemble cisgender people of the same gender as them rather than cisgender individuals of the same biological sex. And with the powers being to do with the brain, as well as them being mystical, I think it is likely that the trait recognises Nia as female, and so she inherited it.
tl;dr: mentally Nia is a woman, and the powers are related to the mind.
It certainly appears as though her family didn’t expect her to have the matrilineal gift, so likely some drama there, which makes sense or else Nia randomly mentioning that she’s transgender (seriously, I found that very odd for her to bring up to her brand new boss, regardless of the circumstances) would make even less sense. I’m wondering if that particular alien species normally has only one boy and one girl, or what the deal is there.
