We all know that it's been bitter sweet when it comes to this final season of Supergirl. Knowing its the end for our favorite Girl of Steel sucks but knowing we get to go on one last adventure before we depart does help immensely. While we've seen David, Melissa and this season Chyler sit behind the camera and direct, we haven't had an actor co-write an episode before. Well our very own Azie Tesfai is claiming that honor as Deadline reports that the actor has teamed up with the writers room to do just that! The episode will be the twelfth in the season and Tesfai has this to say about the opportunity:
I am so grateful to write for Supergirl‘s final season. It’s been such an honor to play Kelly Olsen, a BIPOC and queer character in the DC universe. Working in our amazing writers room and co-writing an episode has been an immensely educational and empowering experience. Writing is such a passion for me and I’m excited to continue on this creative journey.
The executive producer team went on to comment on the actor pulling double duty:
Azie has been an integral part of Supergirl for the past two seasons and when she expressed a desire to write this episode we were thrilled. We couldn’t be more excited or proud. She’s deeply talented and her perspective is a welcome addition.
Executive producers and showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller added:
We are so excited to have Azie co-write this episode of Supergirl. On screen, Azie has beautifully brought Kelly Olsen to life — we’ve been so impressed by her acting and now equally impressed by her writing. It’s been especially wonderful collaborating with her on this episode.

In fairness, Supergirl is ending with 126 episodes. Because Legends gets fewer episodes each season, it will likely need to hit season 9 to reach Supergirl's episode count.
Quoting muckle9999:
Sadly, I agree with you on that. Kelly has been fine and good, but as they've currently written and utilized her, FAR from integral to the show. She was kinda just Alex's girlfriend, who just-so-happened to work for last season's big bad.
This is by no means a dig on Azie. I think she's great.
I'm actually a big fan of how they've used Kelly. She's one of the few supporting characters on this show who doesn't seem to really pull focus from the Girl of Steel. To me, that's how it should be.
As for her co-writing episode 12, I'm interested to see what they come up with. I have some thoughts for what it may be, but I'll keep it to myself.
Ypu know with David Ramsey returning onscreen for Supergirl,Superman & Lois,Batwoman,The Flash and Legends(he is currently directing the latest shooting episode),I wonder if we could see something similar for David next season?Have David guest star and direct for a string of Arrowverse shows?
Also slightly OT but just saw that The CW has renewed The Flash for Season 8,Legends for Season 7,Batwoman for Season 3 and increased the upcoming premiere season of Superman & Lois to 15 episodes.
I'm very happy at the reneweals of Flash,Legends and Batwoman but I also got a ping of sadness for losing Supergirl and Black Lighting especially Supergirl in relation to Legends going on to Season 7.
When you look at all the opportunities the show offered it actors in behind the scene activity, it is sad seeing it not go to a season 7 and 8. However, I suppose that once a season 8 was over we would be longing for a season 9 and 10. I will really miss this show.
Agreed. It's a good opportunity.
And, frankly, it can only help the writing situation.
I hope the episode itself and the experience writing it is rewarding and entertaining.
I look forward to seeing how it pans out.
I am hoping we get to see Kelly go full-on Guardian this season. Alex shouldn't have all the fun suiting up.
