American Alien Synopsis

Here we go! It's finally time for us to get started with season four's synopsis. We'll be getting these weekly as new episodes begin. For today, we are excited to have our first look at the season four opener, "American Alien"! The very first sentence should have a lot of folks happy as Kara is going back to being a reporter! Shockingly, Cadmus actually returns and the events that Cadmus puts into motion seem like they are going to set the course of this season! Check out the synopsis for season four's premiere below:

HOPE VS. FEAR — Diving back into reporting, Kara (Melissa Benoist) welcomes a new cub reporter to CatCo. Meanwhile, James (Mehcad Brooks) and Lena (Katie McGrath) argue about James’ impending indictment for acting as the vigilante Guardian, while Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Brainy (Jesse Rath) struggle to get in sync at the DEO. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) is called into action when remnants of the anti-alien terrorist organization Cadmus try to assassinate pro- alien leaders, but their endgame turns out to be much more sinister than she expected. J’onn (David Harewood) relishes his peaceful new life, but an outing with an old friend causes him concern. Jesse Warn directed the episode with story by Robert Rovner & Jessica Queller and teleplay by Gabriel Llanas & Aadrita Mukerji (#401). Original airdate 10/14/2018

J'onn is anywhere between 400-600 years old and besides M'gann a couple of seasons ago, I haven't really seen him hanging out with any friends. So, I have to wonder just how "old" this friend is :D .

...I only hope that there are not so many subplots that SuperGirl gets lost in the mix. Sometimes what the writers seem to miss is that season one was so successful because it did not have alot of subplots in one episode and therefore the episode was able to maintain focus on Kara as both reporter and as SuperGirl.
While Season 1 did have its issues, the foundation for good story-telling was definitely present in the season, it only needed to be shored up in subsequent seasons so it could grow to its full potential. Unfortunately, though, it seems that they threw out the baby with the bathwater when they made the move to the CW and lost that focus. The hope that it will soon find its way back is what keeps me coming back each season.

One unneeded subplot was the Guardian. Supergirl is supposed to be the hero not the Guardian. I am not looking for James to be indicted, just stop the Guardian distraction.

My idea of a subplot is Kara using her abilities in a down to earth situation. One example was in season one when Kara uses her powers to help Cat thwart an underhanded hostile takeover.

Thanks for the Birthday gift, I wasn't expecting a synopsis till next week or so. Nice to see they haven't forgotten about Cadmus. With James facing indictment is he still running CatCo, perhaps that what he and Lena argue about. I am looking forward to seeing both Alex and Brainy struggle a bit with their new roles.

Happy birthday Brierrose!!

With the return of Cadmus, should we expect Lillian Luthor and/or Cyborg Superman? I'd like to see Lillian again, but can't say the same for Hank Henshaw lol
Also I find it amusing how in the synopsis it says "Kara (Melissa Benoist)" and then later says "Supergirl (Melissa Benoist)" as if Kara and Supergirl are two different characters conveniently played by the same actress :D Well, they are. Two different characters. And two different people. Right?

Oof.
Five arcs in one episode. Hope they can make all that fit.
