True Four-Way Crossover Next Season

Invasion was a serious television endeavour that took some incredible scheduling, talent, and writing to pull off. That said, it wasn't without it's own hiccups. Arrow's 100th episode was rolled into the crossover which might have been better if it was allowed to breathe. Also, Supergirl's portion was not really part of the crossover because Earth 38 wasn't being invaded. Well Entertainment Weekly talked with executive producer Andrew Kreisberg about the four way crossover difficulties and their plans for a true four-way crossover next year!

Next year, we’re hoping to do a true four-way crossover. The great thing about our dear friends at the CW and Mark Pedowitz picking the shows up as early as they did has allowed us to start building the schedules for next season. One of the big things we learned from two years ago, which made the crossovers this year slightly easier, was building in shut-down days, where shows just went dark. The single hardest factor in doing the crossovers is actors’ availability because the shows keep going on. You’re basically juggling four shows worth of schedules.

Explaining how shutdown days are so important, we also learned that poor Melissa was the only lead on a show that actually didn't get a rest:

The thing that we didn’t really plan on — because we weren’t aware that we were going to switch Supergirl from CBS to CW and it was really going to be part of it — that was the one show that didn’t have built-in shut-down days, so all the other ones did. Melissa [Benoist] ended up being heavily in Flash and then in Arrow, so Supergirl was the one we needed to shut down the most and it was the one that we didn’t have any opportunity to. Now that we’ve gotten the early pickup and we’ve started designing the seasons, we’re building in those dark days, and actually more dark days on Supergirl than the other shows, to make it a little easier.

So there you have it! Supergirl had to work quadruple overtime to get the crossover done and all for the fans! We don't know what next season's true four show crossover is going to be about we'd love to hear your ideas!

Looking forward to another crossover but this time lets just make sure SuperGirl has as big a part in it as the other characters. I hope it starts at the beginning of a Supergirl episode and that the characters in SuperGirl are also in the crossover. Also, no more lines where characters like Arrow tell SuperGirl to stay out of the action. That is just plain wrong.

Every episode of the last crossover had someone from another show come on to the one that followed or was following: Barry and Cisco on Supergirl, the Legends on Flash and Arrow, and Kara on all of them.

You can complain about the fact that the overall "plot" wasn't introduced on Supergirl or that some ongoing plot threads were awkwardly tied in, but the rest is just nitpicking.

Kara was barely in the Arrow/LoT episodes, which I think is what most people were mad about.

She may have not been in the LoT episode as much, but she (and Barry) were instrumental in saving the day at the end, so I'll give them credit for that, plus the post-invasion party sequence. But Arrow, they basically leveraged the Dominators' mind control to do the 100th Episode thing, which... didn't do much for me, anyway, as I don't watch Arrow.

I heard the news. I am excited for the four way crossover. Last year's was awesome. I would like to see supergirl flash green arrow legends and martian hunter and Alex Monel and Superman. A new justice league for the next year. From supergirls number one fan. Go CW go.

Agreed would love to see teamup with Mon-El in his real Valor suit with Superman, Supergirl. Green Arrow and Flash

No I don't mean the tone of the show, but rather when the show is not filming.

As expected, a 4-way crossover was in the offing. Let's hope that it meshes together seamlessly and is not as haphazard as this season's offering. In any event, let's all patiently wait and see how things unfold. It might be pure gold and then again, it might turn out to be a dud. :o

As to what SHOULD happen; yes Sara and Alex have got to "meet" somehow along with Winn and Cisco aside from the musical x-over. But I also want to see all the women unite to save the men to see how good a bunch of a$$ kickers they say they are.

All the women...this would be an amusing moment for LiveWire to show up "How can I rob all the banks if these aliens destroy them first?"

It's kind of funny that with this idea of a "true 4 way crossover" they are in fact saying that they actually falsely promoted a 4 way crossover this season.... LOL

Better phrasing: This year we had a four-WAY crossover. Next eyar we will aheva four-EPISODE crossover.

I find it kind of ironic as to how much harder Melissa had to work in all those crossover eps even though the show itself WAS NOT PART OF THE LAST ONE in any way.

That just goes to show just how much of a trooper our girl is.

Bit of jealousy on the mart of Maggie perhaps? ;)

Don't get me wrong I liked the Crossover, but The Flash brought the most fun with Legends wrapping things up some surprsingly good action. But Supergirl got shortchanged. Consider the last x-over an experiment. Perhaps the next time, if the dominators decide to visit, Supergirl will be ready.
But those bits with her, she was obviously having a blast. And she did get to be the one to finally tell off Agent Smith...and in the most cutest way possible. :)
