We have often said that we are in the Golden Age of comics on Television. When we were at Paleyfest, Kevin Smith gave a hilarious and well thought out introduction to the superhero panel. He mentioned that what gets him so excited about these shows is that he gets the same feeling each week as he did when he would read the books as a child. That is only possible because of how incredible technology is these days and the talents of the people who wield it. The VFX crew at Supergirl is doing some amazing things to bring to life the extra-terrestrial ideas from the pages of the comics to life on the screen. Just what all goes into doing this process can be summed up perfectly in this VFX video below:
What did you think of the video? Can you believe all that work gets done almost weekly for us to enjoy on a TV show?! Incredible! Let us know what you think in the comments below and in the forum! Totally our pleasure!
Completely agree. I've never understood this criticism, and finally decided it was just pettiness or some kind of jealousy.
What can now be achieved with CGI is utterly amazing. We should also recognize the role of the actors in "selling" these sequences. I read an interview where Melissa said it was a challenge because when she shot the scene with Parasite she was acting with only tennis balls, and she too was amazed at the results. But you can't tell that when watching it; her performance is seamless and "real." Yet another example of an exceptional actor at the top of her game.
Yes, I too hope this will be on the S2 DVD. I am assuming that the crossovers will also be included, especially the recent musical.
Well said jacksc, you do have to appreciate the hard work that's put in. I love the horizontal flying sequences and sincerely appreciate the time and effort of Melissa (and Helen Slater before her who spent lots and lots of time on the wires for some excellent flying scenes).
Compare with the Captain Z-Ro time machine, Rocky Jones Space Ranger's spaceship, Commando Cody's spaceship, or the most heavily special-effects laden Superman episode of the 1950s era "Panic in the Sky". (And, yes, I did watch them all when they first came out.) (Of course, these were all in living black and white.) Or step forward a few decades to the Japanese live-action Spiderman, complete with the Spiderman giant combat mecha and its explosive throwing katana.)
It is amazing what progress has done.
Anyone who says "Supergirl has bad VFX" is either blind or doesn't want to admit it.
