SDCC 2019 Roundtable Interviews

San Diego Comic Con has been a blast! Yesterday we talked with the cast for a little bit at the invite only Warner Brothers Media Mixer! This morning we got to sit down with the cast and do the roundtable interviews and this afternoon we got to see our first look at season 5! One of the fun things about the round tables is what you learn that isn't in the panel. For example, David Harewood is going to direct again this year, episode 511! We know that Melissa will direct but next year, Chyler is going to direct an episode! She even considered trying to co-direct with Melissa! Talk about a perfect Danvers sisters episode! Anyway, check out all the fun hidden little facts in our roundtable interviews below:

#42 The messageRobertAnthony 2019-08-29 10:00
Last season's was about open borders and supporting one world government. In the protest scene in Stand and Deliver I noticed a couple of signs saying "No Borders No Walls." That's the same kind of messaging coming from radical leftists who hate the concept of American sovereignty as well as a fist symbol from the Socialist Party. That boiled my blood.

Well now from the interviews and other things I have seen online, the message will be like that of Orwell's "1984." I think I heard the cast and crew say about how people are looking too much at their phones...and I have seen it myself many times. These people are being distracted from reality. And that leads me to this Orwell quote...

Quote:
“Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.”
To which I say, "1984" is not an instruction manual...it's a warning.

....Or going to Kelly if she has to go to anyone, and Kelly giving her a more clinical idea of what Lena is going through. THAT would in turn help Kara and Kelly build a relationship, tell Kelly who she is upfront and Kelly help her coming from that end of it. Builds a much stronger relationship with Kelly, and helps her understand what Lena is going through.

Am I crazy (don't answer that) or does Kelly already know Kara's secret? I seem to remember that when she first appeared (maybe in the episode after James was shot?) it was hinted that James had told her some time earlier.

Azie said that Kelly doesn't know.

OK, thanks. I missed that.

I do not think Lena is gonna be saved this is her descent into Dark side. Would be stupid to do a 360 turn on her character. Now that she is evolving into Kara’s inevitable Luthor enemy.

I'm not sure what standard the EPs are using to proclaim last season was a success. My guess is it's based on a very arbitrary reference. I wasn't a fan of last season. It wasn't the worse season by far, but it fell short of the best by far. The problem is that the show has steadily been losing viewers since midway through Season 1. Which was to be somewhat expected between Season 1 and 2 with the shift to a lower network. But, last season lost a larger percent of viewers than the one before, which is somewhat surprising since Season 3 faltered and fell big time mid-way through it. And when you don't have that many viewers to start with, there will come a point that one really needs to question if that message that they're trying so desperately to send out and sacrifice good story-telling in the process, will actually even be heard.

Besides getting to see Melissa, these Comic Coms usually don't do anything for me except be an additional source of irritation. But, I do appreciate your hard work at getting the interviews.

Hmmmmmm....I get what you are saying, I just think a good flying sequence and Kara thinking it through, a montage reflecting their friendship would be more my liking. The emotional stuff for Kara IMO is going to come as Kara realizes what the heck Lena is doing, and in the end it is to inflict as much pain on her (Kara)as possible and how is she going to face that. I always have the most authentic feels when Kara has to fight someone she has no intention of hurting.... I think this could take that scenario to a whole new level. When dealing with Astra, she did most of that on her own, either face to face with Astra or dealing with it through her daily life, quietly....I would like to see that as well here. Or going to Kelly if she has to go to anyone, and Kelly giving her a more clinical idea of what Lena is going through. THAT would in turn help Kara and Kelly build a relationship, tell Kelly who she is upfront and Kelly help her coming from that end of it. I don't know, I don't know that I want Kara needing to speak with anyone in reference to her relationship with Lena. I don't know that that makes it more Kara centric, in my opinion, it does the opposite. The others have to deal with Lena in their own way, James, Alex, Brainy, etc....they each have their own relationship with her. None are as strong as Kara's, and I would really like to see Kara take this on on her own and fight hard for Lena and their relationship. Just my thoughts on it....I REAAAALLY would like a step towards Kara being much more independent this season.
Kara should be shown dealing with Lena’a actions with her own actions. One way, perhaps biggest way was incorrect, the writers the can show the emotional impact on Kara is to talk to say Alex. That’s not Kara going big sister fix this for me or I can’t handle this on my own. That’s talking about her feelings which can have a side effect of clarifying things and leading to an actionable solution. Have Alex listen and say a few words on her own feelings but not take any action unless initiated by Kara. This way Kara’s actions and feelings are most prominent. Show Kara really trying to get through to Lena on her own at first. There’s nothing wrong with trying to solve a problem on your own first and only after that doesn’t work talking through or planning a solution with others.

Thanks Supergirl TV you can see how much work has gone into getting these. Im in the UK and kept refreshing the site to see the new season five SDCC content, so great when it arrived.

Im really hyped for the new season, there seems to be more excitement for this season, everything feels like its had a good refresh, the suit, haircut, Melissa and David directing, new cast members, returning cast members, crossover and Batwoman all seems to have re-energised the show. Im excited for sure :-)

Thank you Green Stuff! This year I think I was able to get the trailer up before it showed in the panel! Each year we are learning new tricks!
