It's been another long journey covering the Supergirl show this season with tons of ups and downs, surprises, touching moments, laughter, and excitement! Of course, all of that comes to a head in this two-part season finale! Part 1, "Resist" welcomed back Teri Hatcher, Brenda Strong, Lynda Carter, and of course, Calista Flockhart! With all that star power, you know this episode was going to bring about an epic start to the season 2 finale! From the Daxamites looking to call Earth their new home, to the infiltration of the D.E.O., here are the things that stood out to us the most:
- Lena Wakes on a Daxamite Ship: Rhea's affinity for Lena seems to be genuine! She kidnapped Lena and brought her to the Daxamite command ship. Lena says she should have stopped her when she had the chance but will she hold that opinion?
- Invasion: From the end of City of Lost Children we knew that this episode was going to be huge! A fleet of Daxamite ships all but covered the National City skyline! From that, it was all action! The police station was attacked, the D.E.O. was taken over, and Freaking Alex jumps off the ledge trusting Kara would grab her! WOW!
- President and Cat Grant: The scene with Lynda Carter flying at the Daxamite fleet with Air Force One was incredible! Seeing Teri Hatcher go toe to toe with Lynda Carter had the comic nerd in us going wild! Then, all of a sudden, you've got Cat Grant making her triumphant return! The three powerhouses skip the "measuring" and then BAM, Rhea takes out Air Force One! Supergirl snatches Cat out of the air and President Marsden's secret is revealed! Every second of this episode so far is packed with revelations and action!
- Cat and Supergirl Advice: Ms. Grant seems to be the only one who is always ahead of Supergirl. "Human connection is the key to happiness" and Kara has the right to be happy. Is she making a deal with the devil though working with Lillian? We'll see because this could be trouble. Oh and lest we forget, (regarding Kara's flight departure) "That is still ... so cool".
- Alex and Kara: It was brief but we were looking for it! Alex and Kara had a quick moment to hug it out before they both went their separate ways. Alex has to destroy the Daxamite fleet per the President's orders but like she said, if it were Maggie, she'd do anything to save her. So it all comes down to Supergirl, is she truly faster than a speeding bullet (or whatever the cannon on top of the D.E.O. fires)?
- Wedding Interrupted: Last season Kara gave a speech to National city to save the people from Myriad, it seems fitting that this season it's Cat Grant giving the speech! So inspiring as usual!
- Kara Saves the Day: When Kara gets onto the ship, she is pretty determined to get to Mon-El and Lena! The fights were great, seeing our girl kick some butt was better, but our hat goes off to the jokes about Cyborg Superman being called R2D2, hilarious!
- Superman: When we were down to the last few seconds before firing the weapon on the D.E.O. headquarters, I was begging for Superman to show up and help out his cousin! Sadly ... he did. But what the heck is going on with Superman? How does Rhea have control? Oh gosh, we need it to be next week already!
Only one new episode is left in this season and if you thought tonight was huge, just wait until next week! There's a lot to unpack from what happened tonight so let's get to it! Nope. Not.. At... All. In fact, we have several discussions going on about that very complaint. Thankfully this is one of the few Supergirl fan groups where not everyone has the same viewpoint, but as a whole, does well disagreeing respectfully with each other. I'm with you on this point...
tired of the politics, but love the cast and everything else about the show, and the people/admin on this site. So, I hang in there. Hope you do the same. And, welcome.
I'm sorry but I've seen other shows with messages and these messages weren't part of a "liberal agenda". Some have an anti-government bias with the IRS being depicted as especially evil. "THe Greatest American Hero" had an episode in which we're supposed to be happy to see that a nosy IRS agent is beaten up and tortured by criminals.
Anti-feminism is another long TV tradition. Women exercising power has long been depicted as a phenomenon that is freakish or just plain evil. Supergirl admittedly is different than traditional. Perhaps it would be more entertaining with more action (especially by Supergirl) and less preaching with any message being subtle.Evidently though that's not the style of this program.
I really hope Kara gets to tell her, but I am thinking, Lena will indeed be the big bad of season 3. All because Kara was idiotic--as far as Lena as concerned--this episode.
Or may be the writers will have half the next season Kara trying to pull back Lena from that edge with that whole dangling of "Will she, won't she" with Lena eventually coming back to the good side and a new villain emerging after mid-season. Just like this season.
I am unhappy about how Kara and Alex just accepted the president being an alien; I am fine with refugees trying everything they can to fit in including taking human identities, but getting elected to be the leader of a nation while lying and cheating and keeping your identity secret? No! I'd have been okay if she had run as herself and won, but not as a pretender.
Why did Kara not see that?
I am also actually okay that the president did this because her character can be anything she wants.
But Kara and Alex accepting it and actually agreeing to keep the secret from everyone else and still treating her as president? No.
I am hoping, as everyone said, this will lead up to the President being out for revenge and Supergirl realising her mistake.
Guardian should be dropped and Jimmy could be used at DEO or a photographer again
Quoting superbill:
Hopefully any naysayers will be proved wrong. Still as a devoted fan I am concerned with the direction of the show. I feel there are too many aliens with down to earth bad guys to provide balance, too many new characters dragged in, less focus on supergirl and distractions like the Guardian. I hope the show's management reconsider their strategy. I question whether it's a winning strategy.
Amen to that!
