"The average person would likely say Superman is stronger than J'onn. I would prefer that myself. But if they go the comic book route, Superman and J'onn would have similar physical strength. J'onn has a different set of powers like phasing, transformation and mental abilities that would be more useful in certain situations than freeze breath or heat vision. That's perhaps why Superman has referred to J'onn as being "stronger". I'm ok with the show making J'onn about the same as Kara in physical strength since he is part of the main cast and was a founding member of Justice League in the comics."

Yes, but J'onn was much easier for the villains to defeat, because his weakness is just ordinary fire.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, in fact I'm in complete agreement with what you said about J'onn's weakness to fire. Just offering a perspective on perhaps why Superman said J'onn was stronger. I probably should have made that clearer.

In the Justice League comics, it always seemed that Superman and J'onn were about equal in powers and abilities. But J'onn was much easier to defeat, because his big weakness was fire (which is very common, needless to say).

I really don't want anyone else other than Kryptonians at that same power level except White Martians.

Although earlier this season during the big reveal after Jonn left her apartment. She was seen doing a stretch and relax motion into her White Martian skin suggesting she can not avoid relaxing into her default state.

Both species of Martian probably need a certain amount of thought dedicated to holding there shape. Remove that thought through relaxation or injury and they default back.

Just like the time Jonn was in his Hank state during the fight with Indigo in Myriad, after Indigo stabbed in the back Terminator II style, he fell to the ground and defaulted to his Green Martian state.

Quoting Kelly:

She said something in an earlier episode like.... "This is who I want to be...." so yeah, she may hate the White Martian part of her to not want to ever be that again.

Interesting that M'gann chose to morph into a green Martian even though the attacker fully knows she is a white Martian, and I imagine that form is stronger. Did she not want to take her true form in front of J'onn? Or does she just hate that part of herself so much that she wants to avoid it?

"I think that quote from "Falling" may have been to point out Jonn was equality capable of capturing rogue aliens. Jonn may be close to but not as strong as Kara. Jonn was impressed by Kara's ability to support a building in "How does she do it"."

Yes, but then again, J'onn didn't seem to have too much trouble subduing Kara at the end of the "Falling" episode.
But as you said, the superheroes' power levels do seem to go up and down from one episode to another. So this whole discussion may actually be kind of like trying to compare apples and oranges.. ;)

"As for Max's bomb knocking her out I attribute that to her "super senses" being overwhelmed and at that point she didn't have much experience with bombs so she didn't recover as fast as she could have.."

Maybe - but remember that J'onn told her that "that bomb would have knocked out your cousin". And Superman presumably had a lot more experience with bombs at that point than Kara did. But then again, J'onn may have just been trying to make her feel better about the whole incident. (Being knocked unconscious is pretty scary!)

I forgot about J'onn saying that. Proves both our points Supergirl's not underpowered compared to this universes Superman.

"[quote name="Fedguy"]There's no shame in not being the most powerful. In fact that makes it more difficult to show one's heroism. Arrow and Flash all have their match and not for one second does anyone feel they're being portrayed unfairly."

Actually, the Flash has always been the fastest of the DC superheroes in the comics. And Melissa agreed with that when it came up during her MTV Puppy Challenge appearance.

Barry just projected Wally will exceed him soon, last episode

I think that quote from "Falling" may have been to point out Jonn was equality capable of capturing rogue aliens. Jonn may be close to but not as strong as Kara. Jonn was impressed by Kara's ability to support a building in "How does she do it".

In "Better Angels" I know Jonn was injured but even at full strength would he have been able to lift Fort Rozz into space the way Kara did?

The problem with power levels in both TV and the comics is they are not set in stone. They are set to suit the drama in the individual story.

Quoting Fedguy:
Hopefully Manhunter and Miss Martian are at least equal in power to her.

They are - Kara told J'onn in the "Falling" (red kryptonite) episode that "you're as strong as I am".
