It's the big return of Lillian Luthor and Lena Luthor! We couldn't be more excited! Just from the sneak peeks, we could tell that this episode was going to have some major action and some heartwarming moments. The press release let us know that there would even be flashbacks showing Lena's story. We were even more surprised when that included the one and only Lex Luthor!!! Guess you can't have an episode called Luthors without having Lex himself! Beyond that, here's what stood out to us:
- Lex, Lillian, Lionel, and Lena: The flash back to 20 years ago was thrilling for us because we were just so excited to see the whole Luthor family in one place. Seems kind of counter-intuitive because they are probably villains (maybe not Lena), but the Smallville fan in us loved seeing them!
- Lena's Father Lionel: This was a big bombshell to drop early on. Lena is a true and blue Luthor! Albeit she has a different mother (if you believe what Lillian has to say) but if true, this could be a big revelation!
- Guardian Fight With Metallo: Guardian held his own against Metallo for a while and we liked that fight. It was nicely choreographed and utilized good powers on both ends (the kryptonite blast and Guardian's shield). It was interesting that James was able to pick up on the fact that the Kryptonite was hurting Metallo in some way too.
- Kara Lets Off Steam: This was always a scene we wanted to see. Kara is the strongest being on the planet and she is constantly in control of her powers, she has to be. As soon as she lets go, she could destroy mountains. It was kind of our fan dream to see her destroy the concrete pillar. Letting off that steam in just a little way illustrates how strong she is. You know while she was doing that she still had to hold back. Any time the show illustrates how strong she is, is a favorite moment of ours!
- Cyborg Superman: We don't know why we weren't thinking about the real Hank Henshaw but seeing him appear got us jumping out of our seats! Lillian has a huge arsenal at her fingertips with Cyborg Superman and Metallo working for her! On top of that, Lena's DNA unlocking Lex's bunkers makes her a VERY dangerous villain for Supergirl.
- Final Battle With Metallo: Just like so many other occasions, Kara is willing to sacrifice her own life to save the life of an innocent. Lena clearly had the right person believing in her! When Kara stayed to fight the ailing Metallo, we were screaming at the TV for J'onn to appear and just in the nick of time, he did! Whew! The only thing we are left wondering is what was it that Lex finished in his bunker?
Final wrap up points! Lena and Kara certainly earned that nice moment and their friendship definitely is in a great place. The Luthor name is a hard one to trust but as we learned in tonight's episode, the benefit of the doubt is a right afforded to everyone. On top of that, you had what felt like a perfect moment between Kara and Mon-El. Kara even whisked her glasses off to get that more intimate feel with Mon-El, but just like Myriad, Kara's happiness is postponed for another episode because Mxyzptlk has appeared and is ready to make his claim on Kara!

I know I was one of the fans that counted screen time, which is why I know that a debate over it is boring and pretty much dumb, so with that said...
Not going to argue with you on screen time, I will just leave it with, I stand by my previous post. Agree to disagree.... For me, I am loving the Mon-El/Kara relationship, I'm loving the Alex/Maggie relationship this season, and thank goodness, because with the mess of the Guardian, I would be much less happy. So, I'm good to go with where we are, and looking forward to more of the same. BTW, more Maggie is coming.
I'm sorry but what do you mean by love interests together? A love interest is still a love interest whether they get together in 1 episode or 4 seasons. Iris has been Barry's love interest since the Pilot, it just took them several seasons to become an official couple. I think screen time does matter (not for development though, Lena has less than Maggie and yet has more character development), wouldn't you love for J'onn to get more scenes or his scenes to be longer? M'gann deserved more imo, she was such an interesting character. I would love for Alex to get more screentime with Kara, get back to some of those final sister moments in episodes. Mon El is actually the 3rd character with the most screentime this season, he does not have less than James had in S1, he actually has more (more than even J'onn). I say this because there are fans that have actually counted the characters screen time.
Right on AshGirl19! Anyone who questions Alex's badassery need only read your post. This is also why batwoman is totally unnecessary. What can any Batperson do that Alex can't, she even has a badass motorcycle. We also don't need Alex to turn into Batwoman who is comic book cannon where Alex Danvers isn't. Chyler said at SDCC Alex deserves her own action figure, please make that happen D.C. her kids will have the coolest show and tell at school.
The whole Lena thing is probably the most intriguing thing to me about this entire season....I honestly don't care if they make her good or bad, the whole process she has gone through has been fantastic to watch.
Only when someone totally tears apart the main character of the show, the one person that is definitely on the screen the most do I question why they are still watching. I don't believe you did that. :)
And they were not love interests TOGETHER, until the last 2 episodes of the 1st Season, and they had a lot of screen time together as friends, far, far more than the screen time Mon-El has gotten thus far. But, again, as I stated before, I find the whole "screen time" argument rather boring in discussion.
And Lena is definitely setting Kara up. She is a Master manipulator like her brother Lex
I didn't mention this in my other posts cause they were already so long but I knew it would be brought up. James was Kara's main love interest in S1 but didn't get as much screen-time as Mon El is getting now.
And yes much of what I write is my opinion, that goes without say (even though I did say it once or twice). But it is also fact that they are using the guy changes because he has feelings for girl trope. Why did Mon El chose to be better? Kara basically told him he should. Why did he chose to be a hero? He wanted to spend time with Kara. These are canon things in the show. It's not the first or last time this trope will be used, look no farther than shows like Once Upon a Time and you'll see it being used with 2 relationships (Emma & Hook, Rumple & Belle).
And I do enjoy the show, just because I choose to notice it's weaknesses and criticize them doesn't mean I don't. Otherwise I wouldn't be watching :)
I do so because I want and think they can do better.
In your opinion of course...
That was made clear as far back as the "Solitude" episode when Jonn is talking to Kara as she is trying to disarm the nuclear missile he without concern of anyone hearing calls her Kara as he is talking to Supergirl. And even before that, in the Bizarro episode it is Kara at the DEO as Kara, again without concern of people hearing talking how Max knows that she is Supergirl because he came after her as Kara. So, I think that has been known for awhile.
We all have opinions, ours differs, that is cool....it would be pretty boring if we all agreed every time. As far as screen time, Mon-El is the love interest of the main character, he will probably continue to get more screen time, I don't think there is anything to read into those choices other than, if your with the main character, the namesake of the show, you will get more screen time.
I have simply made the choice to just enjoy the show, all the hand wringing over screen time, ships, etc...is getting pretty boring as a topic of discussion. I love the relationships as they are playing out, just my opinion. AND, it is definitely good to see James relationship with Kara getting back to the friendship of last year. I would love to see a game night with Winn, James, Mon-El and Kara...that would be a blast, especially with Mon-El still struggling at times with the English language. That would be fun stuff.
Also looking forward to Maggie and Alex and their Valentine's fun. The next episode looks to be one of the more lighter episodes, and that is good after some pretty intense stuff in the last few.
