Originally in Season 1, "team supergirl" would have been mainly Kara, James and Winn. These Superfriends had good chemistry with each other, and every mission was done with the vital participation of every one of them. Season 2 has seen some great changes to this. Winn has arguably taken a positive revolution, going from the lovelorn IT man to a slightly more confident secret agent that is also learning to be more socially capable. The downside is Winn and Kara rarely do anything together or even talk anymore. Supposely her original best friend, now Winn feels like a fringe member. James has taken many turns and has become the dreadful Guardian, and about that nothing more needs to be said.

A new trio has arisen. Mon-El is lovable and involved enough to become almost the second protagonist. Alex has replaced Winn at least in terms of involvement and screentime. Winn feels like the new Vasquez.

Will the old team reform once more? Should they? When they did work together, such as taking on a mission of corporate espionage to help Cat defeat a sneaky exec or spying on Maxwell Lord last time, it was pretty damn cool. But the new core team is no less charming. Your opinions?

I kind of have to disagree, pretty much after "Hostile Takeover", James was not really included in any of the missions, so to speak. IN FACT, he was left out of the knowledge that Astra was back, and as the 2nd half of the season progressed he was pushed further and further out of the picture. To the point that he was virtually non-existent in the 2nd part of the finale.

As far as the espionage story line, I thought that was kinda dumb, considering Kara could have sped in and out in a matter of seconds, with Winn calling in to make the diversion. James wasn't really needed in that...except that he was dating Lucy at the time and she was able to give them some advice on it.

His character was not written well in the first season, and became pretty non-essential, even to the point to where one of his lines in "Worlds Finest" was.... "well, I'm good for advice".

The second season, the writing did not strengthen at all, in fact weakened for James, IMO. To the point where he has been given a role that it seems a good number of the fans do not like....and I'm afraid that the characterization of James as ego driven, even if he gives up Guardian has damaged his likability.

Can they shoehorn him back into the team? sure.....and IF Guardian is scrapped will probably do just that, and we will have a 3rd season of a very weak written character with nothing to do.

Kara is dumbed down alot both physically and intellectually to allow for 'team work'. For me personally, it is the show's biggest failure. It lacks depth and creativity. Imho, the writing often fails the talents of the actors. I am on an awful mobile device, but will respond more later fedguy. :)

And, hey Kelly. They can totally turn it around. I can tell them how :p or they can bring in a couple of character writers. preferably ex Whedon grads, but they are too busy winning awards. Ex 'Fringe' writers? Not suggesting replacing the writers, but adding 1 or 2 character driven writers.

I don't think she has been dumbed down. Their skillsets are different. (Although let's face it, what even is James' skillset anyhow?)
