Of the Arrowverse shows now, Legends has no main character to speak of and I haven't seen Arrow in a while but the way I remember it too falls under this, Supergirl and Flash seem particularly obsessed with making the main character comedically useless in favour of the side cast.

I don't remember the last time Barry saved the day or did anything successfully on his own, and Kara's a little better but not by much. Marvel fans nowadays use the CW shows as a joke to show what a bad format is, and they're not entirely wrong. The CW has taken the "Team XXX" (as in Team Arrow/Flash etc) format to the cringy extreme it seems.

The Flash, Supergirl and Arrow are all capable and independent heroes in their original setting, I would think Supergirl especially because she's the only other kryptonian around.

Right now it seems on a good day nothing can be accomplished without help, and on a bad day the heroes' friends are the ones who truly carry. What's with that?

the absolute BEST parts of S1 were Kara struggling to do the right thing and then Alex says or does something encouraging and then Kara succeeds and earns praise from Alex (or J'onn or Elisa or Cat etc). Obviously they can't maintain this for 7 seasons (it would grow old) but the formula was working with Kara as the main hero / main protagonist "this is MY story" with some necessary help from her support team.

After S1 they seemed to forget this and everything just got diffused.

It frustrates me as well. I think they want to bring other characters in to keep things fresh.

They may as well re-title the Flash this season to XS. At least SG hasn't gone that far with the Dreamer character!
