Kara is trapped in a Power Ranger-like suit (at least according to Twitter) where her powers are somewhat limited (shooting fire from her eyes isn't really an option) and her vitals are monitored because she is walking around on a planet where the smallest atmospheric exposure could kill her. Still, Kara stands up to continue being a hero to the citizens of Earth. Kara's predicament wasn't the only concern though, Manchester Black made his debut and with J'onn's help, an investigation into Fiona's disappearance was started. That, of course, wasn't all that moved us forward in season 4, here's what stood out to us:
- J'onn Bends the Table: Sometimes it is so important to see just how powerful J'onn is. Seeing him feeling scared and angry for Kara and bending the table was a perfect touch. J'onn is questioning if his new mission is something that he can do. He wonders if he has been "dipped in malice" for too long.
- Kara Wakes up in Her New Suit: In a very Ironman-like heads up display, Kara awakens confined to her new suit. She is stuck in it until the Earth can be cleansed of the Kryptonite Particles. You can imagine she panics at first but after seeing Alex, she is able to calm down and understand her predicament.
- Site B Attack: We haven't see it in a couple of years, but the desert facility or site B for the DEO was visited and Agent Jensen turned another DEO agent and lets loose two prisoners. Also, in a call back to season one, The Hellgramite was one of the prisoners released. Agent Liberty uses some kind of parasite to take over their brains for an attack.
- Night Attack on the Precinct: J'onn, Manchester Black, and the bad cop Fiona went on to all discover that a major attack is coming at the police precinct on 4th. Alex mobilizes the DEO and J'onn hears Fiona. Turns out she might be alive and being held by Mercy. Just before the DEO heads up, Kara asks Alex to go on the mission. Alex says that Kara's armor is using all its powers to keep her alive and it would be dangerous for her to go.
- Kara Arrives in the Battle: She uses her flight and strength to jump into the battle and takes a few shots but she is overwhelmed pretty fast. Alex attempted to intervene but wasn't fast enough. J'onn however, showed up just in time and put an end to the conflict rather fast. Fiona then reaches out to Manchester with a code word "Ahimsa" and we learn she is being used to control the aliens. Then the president calls and reprimands Alex and the DEO for the attack on the police station. A General, however, offers him a secret resolution and signs off.
- Brainy and Lena: Brainy has an emotional moment when he can't solve the Kryptonite air problem because he is too worried about Kara. Lena arrives to help Brainy and catches him in tears. The two work together to set aside the emotions of the situation and instead calm each other and get to the problem. Then, the two realize that by using nanites (tiny micro-sized robots), they can program them to seek out the Kryptonite in the atmosphere to clean the air and restore Supergirl.
- Alex Reprimands Kara: Alex is feeling the weight of the world on her shoulders. Ever since she became the director, she is responsible for all the lives of the agents under her command. That includes Supergirl. With Alex's responsibilities to protect agents at the DEO, combined with her love for her sister, she lays into Kara pretty hard telling her this is her last warning and Kara needs to stay out of it.
- Nia and James Talk: James is on the balcony listening to the police radio, contemplating whether or not to use the Guardian armor or not. Nia arrives to let him know that he can be prosecuted for multiple instances of the same crime. James is taken-a-back because this was the same employee who gave him a call to action earlier. The two are forming a good connection.
- Alex Drafts Kara: Alex, after having a heart to heart with J'onn, goes to find Kara and realizes that she was too hard on her. She asked that Kara come and help the team take down the brain-controlled aliens even though the air isn't fully clean of Kryptonite and the President gave Alex a direct order to keep Supergirl in house. But as Kara said, "The Danvers sisters aren't always the best at following the rules" and the two prepare for battle.
- Battle at the Fairgrounds: Supergirl arrives in her new suit and takes on a mind-controlled season 1 villain, Hellgrammite. Kara is able to defeat him with a power boost from Alex's pistol. The suit then locks down to keep her safe. Mercy and Otis pull a pistol on Supergirl to open her suit. Alex delays them long enough for the air to clear. Supergirl stops them both but they are hit with Hellgrammite's thorns. J'onn and Manchester find Fiona but it's too late and she passes but not before asking Black not to be angry. J'onn takes her pain away but only long enough to say goodbye.
Final wrap up moments. Cornell Haley arrives to take command of the DEO since Alex disobeyed direct orders. James faces negative blow-back from his Guardian appearance. In the end, Kara and Alex are able to finally relax on the couch as Kara eats three pies. We get a brief moment in Kaznia where we see that the doppelganger was also being protected in a containment. The episode ends with Manchester adorning his iconic costume and Agent Jensen allowing an infestation of an alien parasite.

The moment with Brainy and Lena was sweet, or kinda bittersweet. Why is it that Brainy/Lena has much more chemistry than Lames ever had lol
Manchester Black seems awesome. The fight is on now because his fiancee Fiona is dead. The guy portraying Manchester is an excellent actor. I like him. He would fit in well.
I think bringing back parasite is crazy. Either first parasite shouldnt have been done and keep this one or never do the next episode and keep the last season's parasite. I don't get it.
I guess it was nice seeing Guardian for a few seconds. Lol.
This season is getting better now. It started out slow. I'm all about J'onn J'onzz though.
An amusing call-back to the original Superman film with Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor and Ned Beatty as his loyal minion, Otis, who asked Lex if he could name one of the soon-to-be ocean-front towns Otisburg...
First of all, this was so funny! I think we are simply seeing Alex, the big sister, thinking her little sister is being a brat (my big brother does the exact same thing to me) and acting like she finds her little sister annoying even though she cares deeply about Kara. It reminded me of the scene in Midvale when Kara has to give back the keys to Alex after she nags Kara about her driving even though "That possom came out of nowhere!" Lol. These scenes are priceless.
I loved "Not the pies!"
Melissa is SOOO talented. When she finally took the helmet off... WOW!
I haven't seen comments on this, but I also want to praise the sound track of the show. It is so moving and cinematic.
This show is so GOOD! It deserves to have MILLIONS watching it!
I was really impressed with David Ajala's performance , one word I would use to describe him is smooth. Go to 16:22 of this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w22QUgS2hpk) to hear David speak about how he got the role of Manchester Black.
Of course I'm most looking forward to watching the dynamic between Supergirl and Manchester Black, upcoming in either Episode 7 or 8 going by the BTS photos we've seen.
Quoting evrafter: Last week I thought Ben Lockwood and the Graves siblings were using each other, each party brought different strengths to the relationship. I am not however mourning Mercy and Otis, I think Agent Liberty will be a better villain without them. Sam Witwer is known as a strong voice actor and the casting department knew that would be key to this part.
Quoting evrafter: Agree with both of you, it was painful clear Melissa and Chyler didn’t have each other to play off of. I wonder if Melissa did some of those scenes where she was a face in the suit in New York, all it would’ve taken was a green screen room.
Quoting evrafter: Yep Lena really does care. That whole pushing her emotions down that’s gonna come back for Lena at some point, it’s one thing to do what’s necessary in a crisis but feelings will come to the surface eventually.
Loved the FPS scene in the beginning of the ep too.
I Definitely think Manchester Black has abilities here too as he hinted to J’onn in the apartment. In comics he has telekinitic powers. It looked to me he used it on the cop who flew past him.
And whatta you know we got Answers to russian Kara with kryptonite too. Some people really has no patience with their complaining. Just tiresome. Some
Nice Lena forshadowing turning evil again. “I could murder” i Definitely think something will make her temperment get the best of her soon. She is useless as good and she is making Brainiac5 useless too. If she turned evil working against Supergirl team. Brainiac5 would have to step up more and we would then finally see how smart he is and he would become a bigger asset to the team too. Now Brainiac5 and Lena are basically the same. So i think Lena will Definitely turn soon so Brainiac5 will become way more usefull.
All in all a really really good ep and next ep looks Fantastic too with the return of the DC supervillain PARASITE in form of Jensen.
