Supergirl Fight or Flight Recap

Supegirl episode 3 just ended on the West Coast and it was amazing! One thing is pretty clear, each episode seems to be better than the last! Here is our recap on "Fight or Flight" with a few gems from the live tweet! Be warned if you haven't seen this episode yet, SPOILERS AHEAD:

This episode seemed to be all about relationships. The first of which was revealed by the talented and yet sneaky Cat Grant who gather that Kara's relationship with Superman was one of family. Cousins specifically. It was this news when reported by Catco's National City Tribune, that tipped Reactron off about Supergirl. This presented our second relationship, Superman's and Reactron's. As we learned through the episode, Superman and Reactron have been battling for some time and to a stalemate. Reactron blames Superman for his inability to save his wife from a terrible radiation disaster. To get back at Superman, Reactron decides to kill Supergirl and destroy National City to get revenge on Superman.

The third relationship in this episode is James' and Superman's. When Kara goes to face Reactron, Jame's own feelings for Kara cause him to use his famous wristwatch and call on his best friend, Superman, to come and save her. While it looks pretty bad for Supergirl, we don't know if she could have defeated Reactron on not – Superman flies in to save the day. The battle continues to stalemate as Reactron retreats and Superman take's Kara back to her apartment to heal. Superman leaves to deal with another world disaster and Kara must prepare for Cat's party.

Here we see our forth relationship, this one of respect and friendship. When Henshaw notices that Alex is working for Kara using D.E.O. resources, he decides to pitch in to help rather than shut her down. Together, the two are able to decipher a way to bring Reactron down for good. Removing his power core while encasing it in lead will disable Reactron and keep his nuclear core from detonating in the city. James offers himself as bait while Supergirl saves Winn from a tumbling pillar. Alex and Henshaw relay their information off to Kara and she is able to melt a lead based statue into a glove to fight Reactron with. The battle is short and Supergirl is able to get the upper hand quickly doing what Superman was never able to do.

As the episode comes to a close, Kara's feelings for James are finally strong enough to act on as she rushes to James' office to ask him out. Its here where we see the fifth relationship, one of ex-lovers James Olsen and Lucy Lane. Not much is clear beyond Lucy's desire to perhaps work things out with James. The timing is terrible for Kara as James excuses her from his office to deal with the newly arrived Lane sister. The show, however, doesn't leave us on this low note.

The sixth and final relationship of this episode is Superman's and Supergirl's. We think this was the sweetest part of the whole episode. Members of Supergirl.tv participated in a pretty educational debate on the appearance of Superman before this episode debuted. Our position on the appearance was simple, if Superman exists in this world, and is not somehow otherwise detained, then you have to honor who the character is and allow him to save the day and protect his family. This episode handled that beautifully. Superman did save the day in one regard but also respected his cousin enough to give her space. Kara's arguements for standing on her own were some of the best written television we've seen and gave a simple and logical explaination for why Superman won't always be there. To further drive home this point, Clark and Kara's instant message exchange was heartwarming, true to their characters, and left both in a positive light. We are over the moon with how well this was handled.

Now the series is set! Supergirl can have her own adventures without needing to involve Superman. We give this episode an A+ and feel is easily was the best so far!
